I cannot resist loving a Savior who himself loved little children, imperfect Apostles, and sinners. I am not alone with this attitude.

Too many Christians worship a Savior who sternly proclaims 

rules and disciplines. What type of Jesus suits you best?

This Wednesday Church on the Internet lifts high the side of Jesus' ministry that encourages each of us to worship a positive, joyful, and fun Christianity. So, let's put on our happy faces and praise God together!

MESSAGE     "How can anyone enjoy church services?"

Have you ever heard someone say, "I didn't get anything out of that church service!" How sad. Whose fault is it for that  attitude, anyway? Go ahead, blame God for your lack of enjoyable church experiences.

Many curmudgeon Christians do not know how to enjoy their worship. Here are a few suggestions that I have gleaned over a lifetime of being Christian and four decades of being a pastor. If one or more make sense for a better worship experience, try it.

1. Before you go to church, pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you to a meaningful and enjoyable worship service.

2. Enter the worship area with a positive attitude.

3. Make friends in the congregation. Greet them with great gusto away from the sanctuary and out of hearing by praying congregants.

4. Smile. It becomes contagious.

5. Don't expect worship perfection. Accept the service for what it is, a time of praising God by imperfect people doing the best they can do.

6. Stop the day dreaming. Listen carefully to the service!

7. Don't vegetate in the sanctuary, participate! Get involved in worship, and it will transform you.

8. As the worship transform you, you will find yourself "getting something out of the service."

Creative God,

Create in me healthy attitudes about my faith. Keep me positive, wholesome, and happy in my faith journey. As you work on me, I will work in me to enjoy my church.

Pentecost Season, Week 9

 

 

 

Hello, Summer Saints!

 

Have you had plenty of rain? Hopefully, your home gardens flourish and the nearby farmers had corn "knee high by the 4th of July." Here in Florida, the crops are lush and harvests ample. We are blessed!

Too many people take such blessings for granted. We assume that there will always be enough safe tap water when we need it. The current trend to pay expensive prices for fancy bottled water gives a clue of how much we see Mother Nature's basics as guaranteed commodities and not God's blessings. Shame on us! 

Today's Wednesday Church on the Internet thanks God for the gifts of rain and water. Perhaps this week's Church will start a trend for us to humble ourselves and express gratitude for the most basic essentials of life. We would have no life without God's blessings of soil, air, water, and the flora as well as fauna of Creation. Thank you God!

Creator God, You made the Earth in perfect balance.

Resurrected Jesus, You added our salvation to this balance.

 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE            James 5:17-18 (NIV)

 

 

Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly

    that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land

  for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the

    heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

 

 

MESSAGE

 

Do you like rain? Most people like rain in just the right amounts. Have too much of the wet stuff and mud abounds. Too little of the same and the earth dries up harder than an old buttermilk biscuit. We have little control over the weather.    

 

Is there anything we can do about the weather? Yes! Let God know through prayer that we appreciate all of the weather we experience. Tell the Creator about your weather needs. Put your trust in God's providence. Rain will come when the Earth's flora and fauna need it. So, thank God for rain!


CLOSING PRAYER

Benevolent God,

We live good lives because You take care of us. Our needs are met. Thank You for every way You bless us. As You have blessed us, let us strive to be blessings to others.

1. Here is a spin-off of an old folk story that I learned a long time ago.

 

 

"NATURE TEACHES A LESSON"

 

 

I went to town and it was raining. I went by the backyard path. I slipped and fell in the mud. It wasn't my fault.

 

 

The next day, I went to town again and it was raining. I went by the backyard path. Again, I slipped and fell in the mud. This time it was my fault.

 

 

The next day, I went to town again and it was raining. I went by the backyard path. I walked around the mud. Still, my shoes got wet. I am learning.

 

 

The next day, I went to town again and it was raining. I went by the front yard path. It had drainage and therefore no mud or wet grass. I stayed dry. I learned a lesson. Did you?

 

Point: Consider your path before you go. (This is good advice for life-plans, too.)

 

 

2. Here is a Native American prayer-poem expressing much gratitude for life's essential blessings.

"Humankind takes God's gifts of basic life elements, such as air, soil, flora, fauna, water, etc., for granted. We abuse them and ignore the generosity of the Giver. Let's change our ways. We can begin by thanking God for the summer rains that provide beautiful flowers, delicious foods, and amazing rainbows. Do it now, and keep it up for the rest of our lives! Then, we can move on to more active eco-justice projects. Amen.

Welcome, everyone on a Christian journey!

 

We are all travelers. If you are a religious person, your living becomes a journey in obedience to the Almighty. Some of us stay at home. Some of us frequently travel. Some of us do a little bit of both. What is your faith preference?

 

However we chose to live out our faith journey, we mature in our understanding of God's presence, work, and grace in the present. The more we see and learn, the more we thank God for travel mercies!

This fact is no secret. Life is dynamic! Life energy causes changes in all living creatures from the smallest cell to the biggest organism.    

 

Human life never stands still. You can be as stiff as a statue or running as fast as an Olympic sprinter and be changing.

 

Spiritually, religious people - especially Christians - are always on a journey. They are  moving to fulfill the divine purpose for their birth.

 

You and I are on this journey. As Christians, we have a divine mandate to accomplish God's reason(s) for our being here. Our journey has more to do with obedience, compassion, forgiveness, kindness, prayer, worship, and faith than money, power, materialism, success, fame, egotism, and greed. We are doing God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit's business!

 

On this journey, we are not alone. God's Holy Spirit goes with us blessing us with travel mercies. These travel mercies are sometimes small gestures of care, grace, beauty, a good meal, a safe trip, and minor gifts beyond number. At other times, God's travel mercies reach great importance as healings, miracles, epiphanies, survival, marriage, births of children, friendships, and life changing divine interventions that change our lives. Most of God's travel mercies lie between the small and the big. Can you think of some travel mercies - small or big - that God has provided on your life's journey?

 

How can we respond to God's kindnesses bound-up in the divine travel mercies enjoyed? It's simple. Stop what you are doing right now and praise God for travel mercies received!

- As the plane stopped at the gate, the Captain made this announcement, "As you exit the plane, make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."


- This was heard on a Southwest Airline flight. "Ladies and Gentlemen, if you wish to smoke, the smoking section on this plane is on the wing.  If you can light 'em, you can smoke 'em."


- An old, senior Senator called and had a question about the documents he needed for his trip to China.

After a lengthy discussion about passports, he was told that he needed a visa. "Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never needed on before.

Again, he was told that his stay required a visa. He looked angry and replied, "Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express."

Pentecost Season, Week 7

Welcome, Sisters and Brothers!

God's grace is a wonderful, yet confusing, divine gift. This old Church adage illustrates the conundrum. Whenever two Christians discuss grace, three opinions appear. Go figure!

God's grace is a marvelous tool by which our souls get energized. God powers us through love, forgiveness, encouragement, miracles, community, and countless ways unique to each individual Christian. How does God's freely given grace empower you?

This Wednesday Church on the Internet celebrates God's never ending love for undeserving followers like ourselves. Thank you for being a part of this faith fest.

PASTOR MIKE'S LAST THOUGHT ...

In a small Texas town, a bar began construction on a new building to increase business. At the same time, the local Christian church started a 24/7 prayer campaign complete with petitions to block the bar owner's plans. Work continued right up until the week before opening when suddenly lightening struck the bar and burned all of it to the ground.

The church folks were smug in the opinions after that until the owner sued the church on grounds that the church was responsible for his burned business.

In replying to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility for or connection to the building's demise.

As the case made progress in court, the judge looked over the paperwork. One day, he made an interesting remark. He commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and an entire church congregation that does not."
